Comeback Kid Gypsy Flame Takes To Ballarat Heats

One of the favored runners in the first of six heats of The President's Trophy at on Wednesday night is the trained .

Shinners has a high opinion of Gypsy Flame, which has only been in his kennel for the last eight months.

The son of has shown that he has above average ability, having saluted the judge in three out of his ten race starts to date.

But it hasn't been all plain sailing for Shinners or his chaser who had numerous problems before he made it to the track.

“”He had bone problems as a youngster which delayed his racetrack debut, but hasn't had any side effects since.” Shinners said.

Two starts back Gypsy Flame met with some more injury problems when he sustained a fractured shoulder in a bad fall at .

The fall put him off the scene for two months, but he bounced back with a vengeance from that injury with a slashing all the way win at at his last start.

On that occasion he was an impressive five length winner over the Captain Milo.

“He trialed well before his run at Warragul and showed he is back to his best.”

Gypsy Flame has a tough assignment in his heat as he comes up against talented chaser from the kennel.

“Major Mission will be hard to beat from the red box (box 1), but if Gypsy Flame can get to the front he will certainly have to catch him.”

Major Mission has already notched up three wins from the coveted box 1 draw, and like Gypsy Flame is generally quick out of the boxes.

Gypsy Flame has drawn outside of Major Mission in Box 3, which should see a great charge to the first split in the race.

Other chances in the race include local greyhound Retro Bale and Selsi Flyer.

The six winners and two fastest second placed greyhounds from the heats will advance to next Wednesday nights final to be run over 450 metres.
