Craig Monigatti appointed the new manager at Warrnambool
FORMER Carlton Blues Football IT Manager Craig Monigatti has been appointed as the new manager of the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club.
Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) announced the decision on Friday following the hugely successful Cup and Classic night on Wednesday which saw over 1,800 people flock to Warrnambool to witness some of the finest canine athletes the sport has to offer.
Monigatti, who grew up and attended school in the Warrnambool area, will join the club following a 14 year tenure with the Carlton Football Club, while he has also completed a Bachelor of Applied Science and Management and is currently completing an MBA in Sports Management.
In a press release issued by GRV, Monigatti said he was thrilled to be accepting the new rule and is excited for what lies ahead.
“I'm truly excited about the opportunity that this presents. Greyhound racing has been a huge part of the Warrnambool community for decades and I have seen first-hand the passion that the community has for the sport,” Monigatti said.
“There are sweeping changes to greyhound racing right across Victoria, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, integrity and jobs for people in regional and rural communities. It is an exciting time to be involved with the sport.”
GRV CEO Alan Clayton applauded the appointment, commenting that Monigatti was the perfect fit to ensure greyhound racing continues to thrive in the Warrnambool area.
“It is an exciting time to be involved in greyhound racing in Warrnambool, with 1800 people attending Wednesday night's Cup and Classic,” Clayton said.
“Craig brings a rich and varied background to this role as well as having a thorough understanding of the community and the issues facing Warrnambool locals and greyhound racing in the area.”
Monigatti will take over the management of the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club from Fiona Umbers, who has filled in at the club following the sudden passing of former manager Matt Ansell in January.
While it has been a challenging time for the club, Clayton said Wednesday's turnout suggested things are looking up.
“It is a testament to the passion and love Warrnambool people have for greyhound racing that more than 1800 people attended Wednesday night's Cup and Classic in what was a hugely successful night,” Clayton said.
“I'd like to thank Fiona Umbers and all involved for her tireless efforts in stepping up during such a challenging time to bring such a great atmosphere on the biggest night in Warrnambool greyhound racing.”
