Dyna Nalin Sets The Time Standard In Maturity Classic Heats
You won't see a better card of racing than last Saturday night at The Meadows where twelve heats of the group one Hudson Pacific Maturity Classic were held over the 525 metre distance. The $100,000 series was host to some serious chasers, with most of the winner's saluting as favourites in their respective qualifiers. With such a quality cohort advancing to next week's semi-finals the 2013 running is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Maturity Classic's in recent years.
Time honours of the night went to the Paul Stuart trained Dyna Nalin who clocked a scorching 29.89 seconds in heat six. Handled by the astute Darren McDonald, Dyna Nalin began moderately from box one but was able through to rail through on the first turn to take up the lead. Once the black son of Ashom Bale and Tally Bale found the front he never looked in danger, stretching out beautifully to score by ten lengths on the line over McDonald's own Dark Warrior. The win on Saturday was Dyna Nalin's first start at The Meadows after previously running at Sandown but having raced for the majority of his career in Western Australia. Dyna Nalin goes into the semi-finals with the impressive record of thirty-two starts for twenty-one wins and six minors.
The only other runner to break the 30 second barrier on the rain affected surface was Mark Delbridge's Tomac Bale in heat nine. The red fawn chaser showed tremendous early toe, spearing the lids and dashing to the lead past the post the first time. Once in the lead, it was a case of times and margins as the son of Dyna Lachlan skipped away to score by six-and-one-quarter lengths over Karise's Voice in a speedy 29.98 seconds. Tomac Bale is from an outstanding litter out of Princess Bale which includes recent W.A Oaks winner Quiz Bale whilst Princess Bale is also the mother of the top racers Bagget Bale, Barcia Bale and Desalle Bale amongst others.
Delbridge collected a winning double on the night with kennelmate Allen Makoto scoring decisively in heat eleven. Drawn awkwardly in box four, the youngster by Meticulous went up with the lids slightly at box rise but quickly knuckled down to the task ahead, crossing over to the rails before taking a dream run through to snare the lead in the run out of the first turn. The winning time was 30.38 seconds- a solid effort on the wet track and in a late race. Running a good race in second position was Kiss Me Ketut for David Burnett with Angela Langton's Set Sail South finishing third.
The shortest priced winner of the night was Schroder Bale who scored at the skinny odds of $1.30. Trained by Graeme Bate, Schroder Bale exploded from the boxes and made every post a winner clocking a slick 30.08 seconds. It was the tenth win for the son of Dyna Lachlan and Amity Bale who has been ultra-consistent throughout his 28 start career competing in five group finals including finishing second behind Xylia Allen in the group one Peter Mosman at Wentworth Park.
Schroder Bale was the only winner for Bate, with fancied kennelmate Xylia Allen finding all sorts of trouble when finishing third behind Hawk Alone in the fifth heat. Xylia Allen jumped well from box three but got turned sideways soon after the start, running a huge race to finish in the placings and qualify for the semi-finals. All credit goes to the winner though who was just too good on the night. Starting at $18.90, the Mark Rodgers trained dog has now won six from 17 with seven minor placings. His time of 30.31 seconds will see him right in contention for the next round of racing this week.
Black Magic Opal was back to his best on Saturday night taking out heat three in dominant style. Although he had a wide draw in box eight, punters were still keen to be on the son of Magic Sprite, sending him out at $1.40. When the lids flew open, Black Magic Opal was straight on the bunny with supporters breathing a sigh of relief as he went on to take out the event in a quick 30.08 seconds. It was Black Magic Opal's nineteenth win from just 25 starts on Saturday night, with the Jason Thompson trained greyhound certainly living up to his reputation with that classy display.
