Racing Minister To Confirms Interim Appointments To Board Of Greyhound Racing Victoria

Minister for Racing Denis Napthine has announced the appointment of three experienced professionals to the Board of Greyhound (GRV).

Jenni Coustley, Stephen Silk and Geoff Miles, all members of the transitional board in July this year, have been re-appointed for the longer term.

The three new board appointments will join GRV chairman Peter Caillard who continues in this important role.

“Greyhound racing is a growing sport in Victoria and is an important part of the state's economy contributing more than $200 million in economic benefits and providing more than 1,600 jobs,” Dr Napthine said.

“However, the June 2012 report by the Victorian Ombudsman into the of GRV raised serious issues regarding governance, and probity that needed to be addressed as a priority.

“I am pleased with the efforts of the Chairman of the Board Peter Caillard, the transitional board and GRV staff in substantially implementing the Ombudsman report's recommendations.

“The re-appointments of these three transitional board members recognises their work over the past three months and also the vast experience in racing operations, management, major events and finance they bring to the Board.

“I would also like to thank Denis Hall for his work on the transitional board. Mr Hall chose not to seek an ongoing position on the GRV board.

“A selection process for the remaining position on the GRV Board is currently underway and an announcement will be made in coming weeks,” Dr Napthine said.
