Reckless Brother To Bring Home The Bacon At Ballarat

The “Porterhaus” butcher shop in Moonee Ponds will be the place to visit this week if is successful at on Wednesday night.

The owners of the business race Reckless Brother, which be looking to make it three wins in succession in the Animal Supplies Grade 4/5.

The first time owners formed the aptly named Porterhaus syndicate to race Reckless Brother, and have certainly not been let down by their talented chaser.

By out of the dam Reckless Abandon, Reckless Brother is trained by Jim Kirk and has already saluted the judge on sixteen occasions for the syndicate.

Reckless Brother was originally reared in NSW, before being sent to , and then being purchased by the syndicate.

A veteran trainer in excess of sixty years, Kirk rates Reckless Brother amongst the best he has ever had in the kennel.

“He (Reckless Brother) is also in the veteran class at four years of age, but he just keeps giving his best in his races.” Kirk said.

Reckless Brother will jump from Box 3 in the race to be run over 650 metres.

“He's a very good dog, and the box draw certainly won't affect his chances.” Kirk said.

At his only start at the track and distance Reckless Brother was successful.

But it hasn't been all glory and easy work for Kirk and his chaser, as Reckless Brother has had to overcome a number of injuries throughout his career.

“He has had about fourteen months off during his racing career due to triangle injuries to his back legs, but he just kept coming back better each time.”

Reckless Brother showed his versatility at his last start when he received a check in running, but was still able to finish strongly and overrun the opposition.

“He is a good box dog who can either lead or finish off his races.”

“If he gets a good run in the race he should be hard to beat.”

Others that will come into contention in the race include Splat and Lankan Flash.

The form line of Splat, which is trained locally by , does not look good on paper but has run into plenty of trouble at his recent starts.

Splat has already notched up a win at the track and distance. If he is able to keep out of trouble from his Box 7 draw he will be one at odds which can run into the placing's.

The Lindsay Morshead trained Lankan Flash was a last start winner over the race distance at .

That made it three wins from the last four race starts for the daughter of who will jump from Box 6.
