Shared Equity causes a shock upset in 2015 Group 2 Ballarat Cup
ANGELA Langton's Shared Equity caused a shock upset in the Group 2 Ballarat Cup (450 metres) on Friday night, defeating a star studded field including champion sprinter Fernando Bale.
Beginning well from box eight, Shared Equity was quick to gather momentum, sweeping around the field and crossing to the fence before kicking clear ahead of Magic Spring (box six). Meanwhile, Fernando Bale was spat out the back after an ordinary beginning and found nothing but trouble as he tried to make a run around the turn.
In the home straight and Shared Equity was in a race of her own as the daughter of Brett Lee and West On Bluebird went on the score by four-and-a-half lengths in 24.82. Unlawful Entry (box five) ran a cracking race to snare second for Brett Bravo while Magic Spring was able to hold on to third spot.
Fernando Bale finished fifth for Andrea Dailly, making it the first time he has been unplaced in a Group final and just the fourth time overall throughout his 43 start career.
It was the first Group win for Shared Equity which had previously been placed in both the Bendigo Cup and the Warrnambool Classic, while she had also qualified for the Adelaide Cup, the Horsham Cup, the Geelong Cup and the Silver Bullet throughout her 44 start career. She has now won over $191,000 in career earnings and will be looking to add to that when she heads to Tassie this Thursday to tackle the heats of the Group 1 Hobart Thousand (461 metres).
It wasn't all bad news for Dailly this week, with the kennel picking up a Group 1 in the Sunshine State when Dyna Double One scored an emphatic victory in Thursday's Brisbane Cup at Albion Park. The son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale began fairly from box four and managed to work his way into a handy spot behind the leaders Old Spice (box two) and Fantastic Spiral (box three) as they ran through the bend for unleashing a powerful run, claiming the lead on the top turn to shoot clear and score by four-and-one-quarter lengths.
The black speed machine clocked a quick 29.71 over the 520 metre trip, defeating a fast finishing Cyndie's Magic (box eight) and Fantastic Spiral.
Dyna Double One has now won 24 races from 43 career outings with a staggering $803,586 in prize money. The Brisbane Cup was his second Group 1 win in less than a fortnight, having run down his superstar kennel mate Fernando Bale to land his maiden triumph at the highest level in last month's Group 1 Melbourne Cup.
Amazingly, Dyna Double One and Fernando Bale have won over $2 million for trainer Andrea Dailly and owner Paul Wheeler in 2015 alone, with a combined total of 10 Group 1 triumphs, two Group 2s and two Group 3s.
Dyna Double One will also head to Hobart this week and, if successful in both his heat and final, will be within $120,000 of breaking the elusive $1 million dollar mark. Fernando Bale is expected to have a short spell before resuming his career, his likely swansong appearing to be January's Group 1 Paws of Thunder (520 metres) at Wentworth Park.
