2014 Perth Cup Night Review

has taken out the 2014 Group One (530 metres) title for trainer Darren McDonald. It was a night for Victorian's, with Born Ali winning the Group One (715 metres) for Robert Britton.

As the bunny started up and the boxes flew open Keybow shot to the lead, cutting Saving Bundles off for the prime position on the rails. Zelemar Fever (favourite at $4.40) jumped quickly, but was disadvantaged from box six and she found herself in anticipated trouble heading into the first bend, with Andrea Dailly's Allen Deed falling. The damage had already been done as Keybow continued to extend he lead from outsider Saving Bundles, with Star pushing on to finish third. The Darren McDonald chaser stopped the clock at 30.15, with Saving Bundles just five lengths behind. Litter sisters Star Recall and High Recall finished third and fourth.

At just his 18th career start inexperience wasn't an issue for Keybow, although it worried Darren McDonald coming into the race. The black dog has now extended his winnings to nearly $200,000.00. The son of Take The Kitty – Key Exit has become Group One Perth Cup champion in just his second group affair after running second in the Carnbourne Cup four starts ago.

Kristie Collyer handled her first Group One winner in the Galaxy for Robert Britton. In a nailing biting encounter, Gold Affair Two went straight to the early lead from box seven with kennel mate Born Ali camped on her heals in second place. Dyna Willow looked to fall out of the boxes because of the early speed the other chases had. She worked hard around the outside of the field to sit in third position. Gold Affair Two began to tire as Dyna Willow and Born Ali made a line of three. It was Born Ali who pushed on to win by a head over Dyna Willow and Gold Affair Two a further two lengths back in third. Infinite Wish finished in fourth position.

After two weeks of catering for Robert Britton's chasers every need, Kristie Collyer finally got what she deserved, a Group One winner. The daughter of Velocette – Born Princess increased her stake money to over $225,000.00. She jumped as the $2.30 favourite and didn't disappoint punters taking out the race in 42.05.

Linda Britton looked to win everything but the big races, finishing up with five winners. Te Amo took out the after missing the start from box seven. It was a massive ask for the WA trained greyhound to defeat the talented field. The daughter of – Osti's Bride crossed to the lead, overtaking Andrew McLaren's Bluey's Fate as they passed the catching pen. Looking strong, Te Amo won the Consolation in 30.43, followed by Buley's Fate, Ollie Bale and General Destini.

Dyna Nalin was welcomed back to Perth's winning circle in the second race. Last week running third he missed out on both the Perth Cup and Consolation. From box three Dyna Nalin didn't disgrace himself out of the boxes, at worst he sat in fourth position on the rails. It was only a matter of time before 's chaser stole the lead from Ritchie Rich, winning in a best of the night time of 30.10.

ARG Editor's Note

ARG would like to take this opportunity to thank RWWA and GreyhoundsWA for their fantastic hospitality over this sensational weekend of racing. We were made to feel like locals on Friday night at Mandurah and were then treated to a sensational night at the Perth Cup.

A fantastic night of racing was enjoyed by thousands. The atmosphere was something that the local industry should be very proud of. Superb racing, plenty of beers flowing, quality food and a massive fireworks display as the music played well after the last. What more could a visitor want?

To Paul Stuart, Linda Britton, Kristie Collyer and Collins, thanks for being our inaugural podcast interviews.
