Racing & sports markets: Greyhounds, thoroughbreds (Melbourne Cup), harness racing, AFL, NRL, cricket, tennis, soccer, motor sports and much more.
William Hill is one of the biggest online bookmakers in the world but only rebranded from Sportingbet to their international brand on February 24, 2015. William Hill offer an enormous spread of betting markets seven days a week, with competitive prices across the board in greyhound racing, horse racing and hundreds of domestic and international sports. Throw in a super AUD$502 sign-up bonus and attractive mobile gambling platforms for iOS and Android, and William Hill ranks as our No.1 Australian bookie for online greyhound betting.
Hills head office announced all of its Australian operations (Sportingbet, Tom Waterhouse and Centrebet) would all be rolled into the international brand in 2015, making them the largest corporate bookie in our country.
Website layout & betting interface
Despite the rebrand to William Hill the website is the same layout as the previous Sportingbet model. This design has done away with the traditional sidebar, instead listing all the different racing and sports categories in a horizontal navigation bar across the top of the page. This change alone gives the homepage a much more spacious feel, and leaves more room in the middle of the screen for promotions, special features, betting news and other important content.
Subtle changes in the colour scheme and the nature of the site’s graphics have improved the visual appeal enormously. This was an area where WilliamHill.com.au lagged behind previously, as the site felt clunky, cloyed and just a bit ugly compared with many of its competitors. Now, it boasts one of the most attractive and easy-to-use online gambling interfaces on the Australian market.
The functionality of the site is top-notch, too. To place a bet, all you have to do is click on the odds you wish to take; your interactive betting slip will pop up on the right of screen, where you can set your stake and confirm the wager. A little red box will then appear on the ‘Bet Slip’ icon towards the right side of the page to show the number of bets on your current ticket.
Another useful tool is the small vertical menu on the left, which holds quick links to special features and promotions. These shortcuts include Jockey Challenges, Live Betting, Special Markets and Quick Multis, as well as a direct line to all recently confirmed race results.
$502 bonus bet promotion
New customers at William Hill Australia can score a bonus bet of up to $502. Create an online gambling account, make a deposit and place your first bet, and you will get another wager of the same amount on the house.
For example: if your first wager at William Hill is $100, you will then get a bonus $100 bet; if your first bet is $350, you will get a $350 wager; and if your initial bet is $700 or more, Hills will give you a free $700 stake on any market of your choosing.
This special offer is only available in the ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania, as state legislation prohibits gambling operators from offering sign-up bonuses to residents of New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. Once registered, however, punters from NSW, SA, VIC and WA can indulge in any and all of the bookie’s regular bonus deals and other special promotions.
Greyhound betting markets
Australian greyhound racing boasts one of the nation’s premier online betting scenes, and William Hill’s slick layout and easy-to-navigate race menu make it easier than ever to have a punt on the dogs. All tracks and race times are listed in a clean, clear format, complete with a live countdown clock for every race. Those featuring fixed prices and best tote odds are clearly marked according to a handy colour-coded key, and the left-hand sidebar offers easy access to specific markets and bet types.
When you click/tap on the race you want to bet on, you can choose your preferred tote (Tatts, NSW, VIC or Mid Tote) and the available wagering options from a simple menu above the list of runners. Below are some of the most common greyhound racing bets available every day at William Hill:
Win/place – The simplest kind of bet, where you pick a dog to either win the race or finish in the top three places. An each way bet covers both scenarios.
Quinella – Pick the top two place-getters, in any order.
Quaddie – Here you must pick four winners from four separate races at a single meeting. In order to win the bet, you must land the winner of all four races.
Exacta – Similar to a quinella bet, except you must pick the exact order of the top two finishers.
Trifecta – Pick the first three dogs past the post, in the correct order.
First Four – Like a standard trifecta, except you must also pick the correct fourth-place finisher. This bet type can produce enormous wins, even with modest stakes.
Box bets – By boxing a quinella, exacta, trifecta or first four bet, you can pick as many runners as you like and cover many possible finishing orders. For example: in a box trifecta with three dogs, you get six possible winning combinations.
Super Exotic – This unique betting market is a boxed wager which can cover quinellas, exactas, trifectas and first four combos, depending on how many dogs you select. For example: if we pick four runners, we get 66 possible wins with a box quinella (6), a box exacta (12), a box trifecta (24) and a box first four (24).
Mobile betting on smartphones & tablets
Mobile gambling applications are fast becoming the most popular way to bet real money on greyhound racing. William Hill’s dedicated betting apps at Google Play and the App Store are among the best on the market, with simple touch-and-swipe interfaces that allow you to place bets on the go with ease.
If you are rocking something other than an iPhone, iPad, or Google-powered device, you can still bet online through the William Hill mobile website. It uses a simpler set-up to ensure optimal loading times, but you can access all the same betting markets that are available on the native apps and the desktop site.
AUD banking options & online security
Australian gamblers can choose from several banking options at William Hill, including credit cards, Web wallets and direct money transfers. All transactions are fully protected by a 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) digital encryption – the same kind of online security protocol used by leading financial institutions all over the globe.
Accepted AUD deposit options:
– Skrill (Moneybookers)
– Telegraphic transfer
– Bank deposit
Withdrawal methods for Australian currency:
– Electronic funds transfer (EFT)

Some of the cash deposit methods available allow for instant processing, while others can take up to 48 hours to go through (see the William Hill website for more details on each option). Withdrawals may require up to five business days to process, due to the stringent security measures to ensure all cash-outs go to the right person.

Existing Sportingbet customers
In January 2015, William Hill announced it would be absorbing Sportingbet, Centrebet and TomWaterhouse.com into a centralised WH betting site, having bought out all three Aussie bookmakers over the past few years. SB was the first to go, with the other two expected to follow in late 2015.
But what does this mean for current Sportingbet customers and those looking to join up now?
– When the changeover happens, all accounts and funds therein will be automatically switched to the new William Hill website. You won’t have to sign up all over again, and you won’t lose any cash you might have in your Sportingbet account.
– Any active bonus deals and promotions will have been carried over to your William Hill betting account. So if you sign up and accept a bonus cash bet but haven’t used it before the changeover, your bonus will be valid at WH.
– All desktop software and mobile interfaces will remain as is. The layout of the Sportingbet website won’t be completely altered, and nor will the iOS and Android apps; they will simply be rebranded under the William Hill banner.
